Grade 5
Putting a New Spin on It: What Do You Know About the Earth and Moon?
Math, Science and Technology

The purpose of this project is to use technology to collect and interpret data and to extend students’ understanding of planetary relationships. After studying the movements of the earth and moon, fifth grade students will develop a survey about the content using Survey Monkey. The survey will be taken by other students in the school. The fifth grade students will analyze the results and develop digital storytelling presentations to correct the most common errors or misunderstandings. Digital storytelling requires students to structure their information in a sequence, select or create images to demonstrate their topic, and to narrate their story. The research and repetition this requires will reinforce their content knowledge. Their final digital stories will be presented to a “real world” audience of other students and made available on the school’s website. Consequently, they will also need to ensure that their stories are logical and detailed enough for others to understand.
